We chose this beautiful church for our wedding reception. Christie remembers attending mass here as a little girl, and the historical site is in one of the most breathtaking and fascinating districts of this town.
The church has quite a history, as well. The Augustinians founded it as a simple lodging in 1592 while they established missions in the region. It was developed further by such figures as King Phillip III and Father Basalenque before work on the stone masonry of the church began around 1671.
The church has a gorgeous three-bodied facade, gilded interior, and surviving eighteenth-century vaults of sacristy decorated with dancing angels and two-headed eagles in the anteroom. |
